08.10.08Design in Economic Recessionposted in Business Related
It’s already October, and I haven’t been able to update this blog as much as I would have liked to in recent months, partly because I have been particularly busy with various new projects. I have heard from colleagues in the design & design related industry that their business is quite slow, or certainly slowing down, so I decided to post this - Is the global downturn effecting your business?
I have noticed my regular clients are spending less than they would have over the same period last year, but thankfully I have also seen an increase in the amount of clients I have, where regular work is dropping of somewhat from regular clients, I’m finding new business elsewhere.
I would love to know your experiences in the graphic & web design industries, so please feel free to share.

For me, print work has reduced, but web is steadily growing

Yes, that’s something I meant to include in this post, web related work still seems to be a growing industry.

We’ve actually been talking about this a lot lately. I must say, the majority of web developers I know are flying high. We do a lot of wholesale work for a number of resellers, so I’m not just talking about my retail web business but also my clients’ web businesses are thriving. Is our industry “recession proof”, of course not… but I think anyone with a solid client base should continue strong. Slow economy equals loss of jobs equals more new businesses that need websites. It can also mean a search for cost effective advertising methods.. “Let’s improve our website instead of hiring more sales staff”. Whatever the case, in the end we can be thankful we are in a thriving industry.
